A beautiful fall afternoon at Osprey Valley’s North course welcomed a sold-out field of 120 golfers competing in the 9 th Annual Civitan Charity Golf Tournament on September 15 th .
Rated no. 70 out of the best 100 golf courses in Canada by SCOREGolf Magazine, Osprey Valley’s North course (formerly the ‘Toot’) was in immaculate condition.
The tournament was in support of Mind Forward (formerly Peel Halton Dufferin Acquired Brain Injuries Services). Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and golfing guests, we raised $19,290 for Mind Forward. The Civitan Club added its own funds to round off presenting a $20,000 cheque to this incredible support organization helping those with acquired brain injuries.
Mind Forward’s volunteers staffed many of the special holes and Civitan John Di Lorito along with Tomato King donated on-course fruit. John is responsible for attracting almost half of the players and sponsorships, mostly from the Ontario Food Terminal community, its suppliers, vendors and their customers.
At the post-game luncheon, guests heard Mind Forward’s Executive Director Al McMullan give a passionate talk on how Mind Forward helps its clients -- followed by a surprise special guest - the Guess Who’s lead singer Carl Dixon who shared his personal story of recovery from an accident and its accompanying brain injury. He then gave an incredible three-song vocal performance.
We’re grateful to all of the sponsors, especially Osprey Valley and Community Trust, as well as all the volunteers from Mind Forward.
The Scramble format competition was won with a 56 stroke score by foursome:
Closest to the Pin: Michael Spezza
Longest Drive Men: Chris Wilson
Longest Drive Women: Monika Chawla
Closest to the Keg: Rino Sposato
Next year’s tournament will return to Osprey mid-September. Stay tuned to details in the New Year.
