The Town of Oakville's longest-running farmers market renamed the Dorval Crossing Civitan Farmers Market last year (in honour of Bentall Kennedy's Dorval Crossing East welcoming us) is located at the northeast corner of Dorval & North Service Road, just north of the QEW (in front of McDonalds). Our market operates from 8:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. every Saturday until November. All proceeds earned by the Club from market stall rentals, space generously donated by Bentall Kennedy, are donated to local Oakville charities. Vendors wishing to rent stalls, please contact Doug Guthrie.More Information »
About 30 Civitans, Junior Civitans and guests attended a dinner meeting on May 28th to hear hearing the important message of guest speaker Jim Harkins.
Jim is the founder and executive director of Family Adolescent Straight Talk, a not-for-profit created a dozen years ago to help teens and young adults struggling with addictions. Jim spoke form the heart on why he started F.A.S.T. Since then he, and his team of counsellors, psychiatrists and social workers, have helped over 1,500 of our youth in the Halton Region area recover from their addictions. In addition to counselling, Jim helps place kids on an urgent basis in rehabilitation centres across North America which often have long waiting lists.
Oakville Junior Civitans, from local high schools, attended and after hearing how F.A.S.T supports youth decided to donate all of the proceeds from its Battle of the Bands night to this registered charity and bring word back to their schools that help is available to anyone wishing to reverse their travels down the perilous addiction roadway.
